Acapulco Mexico Travel

Acapulco – Mexico’s First Paradise

Acapulco weather is characterized by two distinct seasons. The dry season runs from November to April and the average temperature is 86 to Passports and Visas for Mexico90 degrees F. The humidity is moderate and temperatures drop about 10 degrees at night. The rainy season is May to October and the temperatures run from 88 to 93 degrees F. Obviously, during the rainy season, the humidity is near or at 100%. When packing for your trip, keep that humidity in mind.

The Nahuas were the first natives before the Aztecs arrived. In 1521 a Spanish explorer came and named the land Santa Lucia. It became an important trading port between Asia and America and even attracted pirates like Sir Francis Drake. The city was destroyed during a war in 1810 and experienced a renaissance during the gold rush in Panama. In the 1950’s after much was done to grow the infrastructure of Acapulco, the rich and famous discovered it and made it one of their favorite vacation spots.

The Hotel Acamar Beach Resort on Caleta Bay in Acapulco is a real find. It offers beautiful rooms, suites or penthouses with ocean or mountain views. Yoga and massage are among the amenities offered and the hotel offers glass bottom boat tours of the beautiful Caleta Bay. Scuba, snorkeling, water skiing and kayaking are also available. The Acapulco Beach Club and Resort is located in the northern area of Cyprus in Acapulco. It is situated on a spectacular stretch of beach where the water is shallow and pure. Obviously, all types of water activities are offered by the hotel, including an aqua park and there is a Turkish bath and casino for visitors to enjoy. Free breakfast and buffet dinners are prepared in one of the onsite restaurants. Rooms include singles, suites and bungalows, all of them comfortable with balconies facing the mountains or the ocean.

The Fairmont Acapulco Princess Hotel is breathtaking. Enmeshed in waterfalls and vivid tropical flowers, its rooms, suites and penthouses overlook the Sierra Madre or the lovely Revolcadero Beach. Several top flight restaurants serve exceptional food of all kinds and the bars and cafes on the premises offer nightly entertainment. Take advantage of the water sports, golf, tennis and gym. If relaxation is your goal, get a massage or spend time getting pampered in the spa. If you need to get your hair done, check out the onsite beauty salon.

Manzanillo Mexico – Best Of Mexico

Hernan Cortes, looking for Chinese treasure in the Pacific, was among the first to discover what is now known as Manzanillo. Manzanillo Bay was discovered in 1527 and named Santiago’s Bay of Good Hope.

Cortes visited a few years later to protect his ships from Portuguese pirates as Manzanillo Bay had become a departure port for important expeditions. In 1825, the port of Manzanillo was officially opened. It got its name from the trees that grew there that were used for shipbuilding. It became a city in 1873. Recently, the harbor was deepened to allow access to the major shipping lines. It was also modernized.

Manzanillo’s location is in the state of Colima on Mexico’s Golden Riviera, between Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific coast and is Mexico’s busiest port. An unusual reason for Manzanillo’s incredible growth in the 1980’s was the success of the Bo Derek movie, “10,” which was filmed at the Las Hadas resort there. All of a sudden, all roads led to Manzanillo.

Manzanillo is warm year round and humid as well. Compared to many other Mexican coastal resorts, Manzanillo is largely unspoiled. The rainy season is May to October and rains hit in late afternoon and clear up by evening. September is the worst month for rain and humidity.

November through April the daily temperature ranges from 75-82 degrees F and nights cool off to a comfortable 63-75 degrees F. Mid-June through the month of October is officially hurricane season but the most recent major hurricane to hit Manzanillo happened in 1959. Because of its protected location, it isn’t as vulnerable as other Mexican resorts.

Shopping is a fun activity in Manzanillo. Downtown Centro has many local arts and crafts vendors, as well as silver jewelry stores, and of course, tequila shops. In Santiago on Saturdays, there is an open air market across the street from the main square (Jardin) that is more than 20 blocks long and a good way to spend a couple of hours.

On Sunday, that market moves to the nearby city of Salagua. The Palacio de los Conchas y Caracoles, (Shell Palace) has all sorts of seashells and items made from them. Las Primaveras, is a huge arts and crafts shop taking up the first and second stories of two houses. That area is surrounded by many small shops with handcrafted items. Even the beaches have vendors selling everything from dresses to jewelry.
