Fiji Island Geography

Fiji Island Geography

Many people who enjoy tropical vacations flock to the island nation of Fiji every year. Those without a good sense for Fiji geography may be surprised to find that it is not one island, but is a grouping of over three hundred islands and over five hundred islets, most of which are uninhabited. The wild, desolate beauty of Fiji makes it a popular vacation for people who simply want to get away from the hubbub of their everyday lives. Los Angeles is one of the busiest cities in the world, and it’s hard to imagine that it could be so easy to get from this bustling metropolis to a quiet island paradise so quickly.

Luggage for Fiji IslandsThe easiest and most popular way to travel to Fiji is by airplane. While it would only take about ten and a half hours to get to Fiji from Los Angeles International Airport, more commonly known as “LAX,” on a direct flight, there is only one airline that flies directly from LAX to Fiji: Air Pacific. Their flights can fill up quickly because they are the only airline that flies directly from Los Angeles to Fiji’s international airport in Nadi. Fiji geography makes it a difficult place to reach.

Fiji geography is also what makes it such a difficult place to reach by direct flight. Most flights to Fiji from the United States originate in either Los Angeles or Hawaii, and those flights usually have at least one stopover in Australia, New Zealand, or Samoa. Because Fiji is such a remote nation in the South Pacific, it can be difficult to reach, and, due to its size, most airlines can’t justify committing direct flights to Fiji from anyplace too far away. This is why most flights from LAX to Fiji include at least one stopover, which stretches the travel time between Los Angeles and Fiji to anywhere from fourteen hours to over twenty hours.

Even though Fiji geography makes it difficult to reach, most of its visitors agree that it’s well worth the travel time to get there. There’s no better way to melt away the stress of a long journey than to unwind on a pristine beach with the wind in your hair, the sand between your toes, and a tropical drink in your hand. Whether you want to go to Fiji for a romantic getaway with someone you love or for a relaxing time to get back in touch with yourself, it is certainly worth the trip.
